judges prefer the downface there are still EBTs in western lines that have much less downface than the last skull showed here.
the reason why i have mentioned that the different head shapes we can see here, are more an example of the variation within the breed than how the whole breed has changed, is because the firts skull is Yell v. Wuhracker, the second skull is Abraxas Alphademian and the last skull is Gravis v. Wuhracker and we can say that they have lived in the same period. (1963-1975)
Well, this would be indeed a fascinating explanation, if it were true that is. But these three Bullterrier skulls are actually dated from 1931, 1950 and 1976. The image was published in a scientific paper by scientists from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2004 in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, Bern. It specifically discusses the rapid genetic change in dog breeds in recent times, and not mere variation within the breed, as you propose.
